Where did all these extra collections come from? I didn’t add them.

There are three ways “automatic” collections can be made.

1. You may have enabled the Use collection info from The Movie Database metadata agent setting (for legacy agents). When enabled (it is disabled by default), that will try to gather collection information from The Movie Database. This may cause many unwanted collections to be automatically created, particularly collections where you only have one item. You can disable that preference in the server metadata agent settings for the “Plex Movie (Legacy)” and “The Movie Database” metadata agents. This will only prevent collections from getting automatically added to items added to your library in the future. It will not remove collections from existing library items.
2. When using the current “Plex Movie” scanner/agent combo, you’ve set the Minimum automatic collection size preference for a library. You can set it to Disabled if you do not want it to automatically create collections. Again, the change only applies to future added items or metadata refreshes.
3. If you have MP4s with an embedded “Album” tag, the Local Media Assets agent may pick it up as a collection. Note that the Local Media agent also picks up external subtitles, extras, and other embedded metadata in MP4s (and other files), so be aware of this if you choose to disable the agent source.

Why are there collections with zero items?

You will find after removing all the collection tags from items, the collapsed collection itself remains, but with zero items in it. These are kept because you might have made customizations to the collection (artwork, a description, etc.). We don’t want automatically remove the collection, in case you were only temporarily emptying it before you add other items to it.

If you want to get rid of an empty collection, delete the collection as described above.

Can I make a photo or music collection?

Collection tags cannot be added to photos.

You can add music artists or albums to a collection. You’ll be able to filter by the collection as normal, but there are no “collection details page” screens in music libraries, nor will they appear “collapsed” inline when browsing the music library.

If you add an artist or album to a collection with the same name as a collection in a movie or TV library, the artist or album collection can appear as a related item in that movie or TV library collection preplay, as described earlier.

Choosing a Server—the Server Requirements

Plex Media Server can run on Windows, Mac, or Linux computers—some people use their every-day computer, others have a dedicated computer. It can also be installed on a compatible network attached storage (NAS) device. Generally, Plex works just fine on most modern computers.

Plex Media Server Performance Considerations

There are two really important considerations with regards to performance.

First, the Plex Media Server can allow multiple people to view content at the same time. Say everyone in your home views media on Plex at the same time, particularly video—the server has to work harder. So, the more people you expect to view media at the same time, the more powerful the server needs to be. Second, when Plex prepares your files for certain devices or for the available bandwidth, we convert (or “transcode”) the content on-the-fly. This also takes a lot of server resources when it happens, but allows you to watch all your content, no matter how big, on all your devices, no matter how small.

If your server isn’t powerful enough for how you use it, you will notice playback issues such as stuttering, buffering, or sometimes even an inability to play at all. If this happens, it usually means the CPU can’t keep up with the number of users or the amount of transcoding or both. So, you might consider upgrading your hardware. It may also mean that your hardware is fine but your network is too slow.

Downloading the Plex Media Server

Once you’ve decided where you are going to install the Plex Media Server, visit the Plex Downloads page and download the Server for your device. It is important to ensure the Server computer has an internet connection while installing. This way, the setup wizard can run correctly and you can set up an account during the process.

Installing and Running the Plex Media Server

The installation process should be very familiar, since it’s what you normally do on your computer—it is a normal installation program on Windows and you move the downloaded app to your “Applications” folder for OS X.

When the install is finished or when the server is run for the first time, a browser will launch and ask you to either sign in or create a new account on the plex.tv website. You will then be asked to accept the terms of service, and the Setup Wizard will start.

Tip!: It’s important to understand that Plex Media Server does not have its own graphical user interface. When you run the server on your computer, NAS, or other device, you won’t see a window open with a “server UI” or similar. Instead, you use Plex Web App to manage your server.

Подготовка

Данная статья описывает процесс установки PMS(Plex Media Server) и клиентской части на домашний сервер на OS Unraid 6.8.3 с встроенным GPU.

Серверная часть и веб интерфейс абсолютно бесплатны, но если необходим транскодинг(преобразование потока), использование мобильных клиентов, то есть подписка или пожизненная лицензия.

Без PlexPass транскодинг работать не будет(не зависит от репозитория), просмотр контента в таком случае возможен только в оригинальном качестве.

Рассчитана на пользователя, который уже обзавелся белым статическим IP для своего NAS, а также проведена работа с шарами как описано в . Для автоматизации добавления контента рекомендую ознакомиться со статьями:

Установки в go файле

Для работы аппаратного транскодинга необходимо чтобы у контейнера Plex был доступ к GPU.

Некоторые необходимые действия уже выполнены в частях 1 и 3. Осталось отредактировать go файл на флешке самого анрейда.

Расположен он по пути

Получить доступ к папкам загрузочной флешки не составит большого труда, переходим на вкладку MAIN, находим в разделе Boot Devices нашу флешку и кликаем по надписи Flash

В открывшемся окне настроим доступность по SMB.

Применяем настройки APLLY. Теперь доступ к файлу обеспечен и внести изменения не составит труда, например WinSCP, MC или Cloud Commander.

Вписываем содержимое в Ваш файл go

Сохраняем, обязательно перезапускаем NAS чтобы изменения вступили в силу. Далее переходим в терминал анрейда и вводим команду

Для того что бы добавить новую папку с контентом в уже имеющуюся библиотеку, нажмите «Редактировать библиотеку»

После того как папка с контеном была добавлена, можно просто добавлять новый контент в уже добавленную папку, и он автоматически будет добавляется в библиотеку Plex после нажатия кнопки

«Обновить библиотку».

Collection Inline library display options

It’s possible to “collapse” collections for TV and movie (including “Other Videos”) libraries so that an entry for the collection appears inline with other items when browsing your library. This can be set or changed on the Advanced tab when creating or editing the corresponding library.

Setting options:

• Disabled: Don’t display collections inline at all, show items. Regardless of individual collections settings, they will only be shown in the libraries collection tab.
• Hide items which are in collections: If an item belongs to a collection, do not show the item in the main library when browsing. Entries for collections are shown inline.
• Show collections and their items: Entries for collections are shown inline and items belonging to a collection also still appear in the main library when browsing.

When enabled, these “inline collections” will only appear when the library is sorted by Title/Name. For TV libraries, it applies only when viewing the library by shows (sorted by title) and not episodes or seasons.

Для использования PLEX необходимо зарегистрироваться на сайте. Большинство возможностей доступно на бесплатном аккаунте, а за PLEX Pass придется заплатить, но об этом позже.

PLEX позволяет создать медиатеки с разным контентом — фильмы, домашнее видео, музыка, фотографии. Для каждой медиатеки будет выбран определенный способ индексации — сканер.

Сканер автоматически подгружает обложки для альбомов, постеры к фильмам, имена актеров и исполнителей, скачанные сериалы будут разбиты на сезоны.

Можно упростить задачу сканеру — подготовить каталог с файлами в нужной сортировке. Я предполагаю, что вы бережно относитесь к своей коллекции и уже сделали это, но в любом случае можно обратиться к рекомендациям на сайте PLEX.

2. Нажмите внизу на «Скачать»;
3. Установите «Plex Media Server» на ваш ПК;
4. После завершения процедуры инсталляции нажмите на «Запуск» (Launch);
5. В панели задач справа внизу появится значок в виде правой стрелки. Наведите на него курсор, щёлкните правой клавишей мыши, и выберите «Open Plex»;
6. Вы будете перенаправлены на веб-страницу в браузере. Вам необходимо будет войти в свою учетную запись Плекс, если вы этого ранее не сделали;
7. На следующем экране будет отображён краткий обзор функционала сервиса. Нажмите на «Понятно» (Got It!);
8. Далее вас попросят дать имя вашему серверу. Дайте ему какое-либо близкое и узнаваемое названием. Затем нажмите на «Далее» (Next);
9. Если вы хотите получить доступ к мультимедиа на сервере (на вашем компьютере) с внешних клиентов, тогда убедитесь, что установлен флажок «Разрешить мне доступ к мультимедиа за пределами моего дома». Для этого на данном этапе даже не понадобится ввод кода;
10. В процессе установки вы можете добавить вашу медиатеку, нажав «Добавить библиотеку». Это позволит добавить на сервер данные о фильмах, шоу, видео, музыке, изображениях с вашего ПК, а затем и получить к этим медиа доступ с внешних устройств. Нажмите на «Далее» для продолжения;
11. Останется нажать на «Готово» для завершения настройки сервера.
